Emma Dann
Emma Dann was born in Auckland, New Zealand and started learning the violin under the Suzuki Method at the age of 6. Emma took piano lessons from the age of 5, and started playing the viola at the age of 13. She commenced her undergraduate studies at the University of Auckland in 2003, graduating in 2007 with a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with First Class Honours. Throughout these years at university Emma undertook her first Suzuki Teacher Training Courses, gaining her Level 1 accreditation in 2007, and had her own teaching studio in central Auckland. In mid 2007 Emma moved to Australia to undertake a Master of Music degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and in September 2010, Emma commenced a Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music, in London. Emma has played with orchestras all over the world including the London Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney Symphony. From 2002 Emma was an active member of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Youth Orchestra, where she was principal viola in the 2010 season, and she was a member of the 2010 Australian Youth Orchestra international tour.
Emma relocated back to Auckland in October 2012 to become a freelance musician, and Violin/Viola teacher. Emma is currently on contract with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, teaches violin and viola at Ficino School and Diocesan School for Girls, and has a private studio of about 20 students of all levels and ages. She is in the process of completing her Suzuki Violin Teacher training to gain level 3. Emma is married and has two children, a 5 year old girl and a 3 year old boy.
